Blue Cross BlueCompare Physician Survey

In response to Texas Medical Association’s concerns, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has agreed to suspend its controversial new physician rating system, known as BlueCompare. Several county medical societies and state specialty societies have indicated their concern as well.

We are pleased that Blue Cross listened to physicians’ deep concerns about this program and are confident we can convince the company to replace it with a system that ensures patients and businesses have access to accurate and useful information to help them make appropriate health care decisions.

Blue Cross initially announced that it will make BlueCompare available through its Web site on Jan. 1. But TMA called on Blue Cross to halt the program immediately after a preliminary analysis found significant errors in how data are collected, processed, and reported. TMA has since appointed a body of practicing physicians and health care quality experts to evaluate the program fully.

Please help us further document our concerns about BlueCompare by completing this short survey. We will keep you apprised of what we find and of how Blue Cross is responding to our request.
