Great Reading Adventure

In 2007 Bristol's Great Reading Adventure, the annual initiative to encourage everyone in the city to read the same book at the same time, joins with partners from Glasgow, Hull, Liverpool and across South West and North West England to form Small Island Read 2007. The chosen book is Andrea Levy's award-winning novel Small Island which is partly set in post-war Britain and describes the first encounters between Jamaican immigrants and the 'Mother Country'. Through reading the book, the project will explore the themes of migration to and from Britain and the continuing legacy of the slave trade, which was abolished in 1807. Small Island Read 2007 was launched on 11 January 2007 and thousands of copies of Small Island are now available for loan through Bristol Libraries. Copies will also be distributed to schools and colleges, community groups, businesses and members of the public.

This survey is being used to find out people's responses to the previous reading projects and about their general reading habits. The information received will be used to plan future reading initiatives in the city. It will be reported in aggregate form and anonymously, and contact details will not be passed to third parties. There are 14 questions in total.
